Texas is a State of Mind
John Steinbeck once wrote:
"Texas is a state of mind. Texas is an obsession. Above all, Texas is a nation
in every sense of the word. And there's an opening convey of generalities.
A Texan outside of Texas is a foreigner."
I'm not a native Texan but I got here as fast as I could. I love every square
inch of the state, from the coastal prairie to the mountains of Big Bend with the rolling Hill Country in between. I especially love
Texas when seen through the windshield of my car. It's a pleasure to drive through
the countryside, armed with only a camera and a map and not the slightest idea of
a final destination but confident that
something amazing is waiting just around the curve of the road. I also include many drawings of the
road and nothing else; it's a peculiar fascination with posibilities, of course there's
always the obligatory
image of fresh Springtime fields covered in bluebonnets, because what would Texas be
without bluebonnets?
The open road always has its lure, regardless of where it might be, but whereever
my ramblings take me in the end it's Texas that always draws me home.
