Morton Cemetery is located on the outskirts of the city of Richmond, Texas and it is the place where many of the leaders of the Republic of Texas are buried.  Mirabeau B. Lamar and Jane Long both have their resting places here and the tombstones, both old and new, are overshadowed by sheltering oak trees. 

 

I thought the expression on this angels face particularly poignant.  Athough the statue is weathered and has stood vigil for many years, she still profers a cold bouquet of stone roses to the ones she stands guard over and personifies the gentle protectiveness of one of the eternal guardians of the dead.
