TEXAS COUNTRY ROAD
Pastel and Colored Pencil on paper
16 x 20

This is another image of one of my favorite subjects; the Open Road.  There's something exciting and intriguing about not knowing until you get there what lies at the end.  As long as you don't end up in some rancher's cow pasture, the road eventually leads back to civilization but for a while it's refreshing to leave the city behind, to wander in the country, mindful only of what birds and animals you might see.

AFOOT and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good-fortune- I myself am good fortune,
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Strong and content, I travel the open road.

Walt Whitman, "Song of the Open Road", LEAVES OF GRASS
