INTERIOR ST PETER'S
Pastel and Colored Pencil on paper
16 x 20
The Basilica of St Peter's in Rome may be one of the greatest structures in all Christendom, but it is not the premier in rank. That position goes to the
Cathedral of the City of Rome, the Basilica of St John Lateran. The interior of that basilica is so vast that it covers
an area of 5.7 acres and can hold 60,000 people, thereby making it the largest church in the world.
It is as nearly impossible to capture the atmospheric perspective inside St Peter's as it is to accurately depict the
constant change of light at the Grand Canyon. Both are places that it is only appropriate to experience in person, they
are so awe inspiring.
