BLUE MACAWS
Pastel and Colored Pencil on paper
13.0" x 16.5"
These two birds were on display in the Aviary of the Aquarium in Vancouver, British Columbia. They
were the only two blue macaws in the facility and it looked to me like they were having a conversation with each other as
the visitors filed past them on the way to see the Beluga whales. What do animals that are held captive in these facilities
think of their surroundings. Do they have a memory of a wider world, even though many of them have never experienced
any other life than one encapsulated inside a world of glass? I'd much rather see them in the wild.
