THE OLD AND THE NEW
Pastel and Colored Pencil on paper
16 x 20

I call this drawing "The Old and the New" because it signifies the continuation of life in the forest in the young goat and with death, as is illustrated in the fallen tree on which this young Bighorn Sheep is standing.  Nature destroys the old to make way for the new and the vital, but from death, life triumphantly emerges.  Seedlings are nourished by the decaying wood of the dead tree and will rise, slowly, relentless, effectively with time.

"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished."
Lao Tzu
