TERRY'S RED BARN
Pastel and Colored Pencil on paper
16 x 20

This red barn is of no particular consequence as a landmark but it has great significance in the life of one of my friends.  When she learned I was going to drive through Oregon on my way back and forth to Yellowstone in September of 2008, she suggested I detour for 15 miles and go through the little town where she was raised.  This scene is just a crimson farm structure situated on the side of the road near Vale, Oregon but when she saw it she exclaimed "There's that red barn.  It's always been that color."

Landmarks are important.  They give us a sense of continuity and what might be completely overlooked by one person is to another a memory of home.
